“Nasabi ko na rin naman before na I felt so bad noong nawala ang 'Alta.' But then, I guess, through my faith, kapag merong hindi ibinigay sa iyo, at least I found comfort in knowing na kung ano ang ibibigay sa akin ng Diyos is what’s best for me,” Gretchen said at the press conference of “Princess and I” at the ABS-CBN compound on Wednesday, April 11.
She was not keen on talking about “Alta” since it’s a very sensitive topic for her. She explained that she has moved on and accepted God’s plan.
“Sa ngayon nawawala na (yung sakit), syempre we all move on and maganda nga ang project. May panghihinayang but I will never question God's plan. I may have to go through the hurt but that’s it, I have to move on,” she said.
How did her partner Tony Boy Cojuangco support her when Gretchen was hurting over the cancelled drama?
“Sabi niya sa akin, ‘Hindi lahat ng gusto mo, makukuha mo. Hindi lahat ng dinadasal mo, ibibigay sa iyo. But you can rest in the comfort that God will always give you what’s best.’ So, that’s the valuable advice that I got,” she relates.
Does Gretchen think “Princess and I” is some sort of consolation she is getting in lieu of “Alta”?
Doubts
She admits feeling that way, but only at the start.
“Honestly, I felt that in the beginning when I read the script, Sabi ko, 'Bakit ganito?' I had a lot of questions and for a while gusto ko na mag-back out pero ngayon na nagsho-shoot na kami, malalaman mo na it's not, it's really worth it,” she replied.
Gretchen is happy with her role in “Princess and I,” where she plays a queen for the first time.
“I guess every child has that in them na someday I will be a queen, someday I will be a princess and I will find my prince, you know that type. Pero, it's nice that I am able to play this role,” Gretchen said.
Gretchen went to Bhutan with co-stars Albert Martinez, Kathryn Bernardo, and Enrique Gil to shoot some scenes for the TV drama. Along the way, they had to learn how to speak Dzongkha, the native language in Bhutan.
“Princess and I” premieres in ABS-CBN Primetime Bida on Monday, April 16.
