There’s another role Megan Young is happy to play besides being the reigning Miss World: shield younger sister Lauren from the pain she’s been through when she was her age.
The 20-year-old GMA star said she doesn’t mind her older sister “terrorizing” her suitors because it only shows how her Ate cares for her.
"She just wants the best for me. But like what I always tell the people I date, ‘Ganyan lang naman talaga si Megan. Tatakutin ka talaga niya. Pero deep inside she’s a very, very nice person. Syempre kailangan matakot ka muna. So kung maglalast ka, then I guess you’re worth it,’” Lauren said at the recent launch of upcoming GMA primetime series “Hiram na Alaala.”
Lauren stars alongside Dennis Trillo, Kris Bernal and Rocco Nacino in the series which will premiere September 22.
Megan is obviously the strict sister type—even stricter than her mom.
"Actually my mom naman kasi, whether it’s my friends or someone I’m dating, she’s very easy to get along with. Basta nakikita niya na okay kami payag na rin siya,” Lauren related. "Pero si Megan 'yung medyo mahirap."
Lauren said she’s also watching her sister’s back when it comes to men, but she trusts Megan’s judgment more.
“Of course (I protect her), but syempre iba pa rin ‘yung judgment ng Ate ko ‘coz she’s older than I am. Si Megan kasi marunong siya pumili.”
Dating a non-showbiz guy
If the “very happy” Lauren is any indication, the 24-year-old Filipina beauty queen screened her sister’s date pretty well.
Lauren confessed, “I’m dating. I’m very happy and inspired. Wala naman sa ngayon (label), but I’m very, very happy. That’s all I can say.”
Lauren has been dating De La Salle University’s volleyball player Philip Cerveza since early this year. Before that, she had an unlabeled relationship with Elmo Magalona for quite some time.
Looks like Lauren, who’s also juggling showbiz with school (she’s taking up a culinary course in De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde), has learned her lesson from dating showbiz dudes.
“I have my rule. I don’t date my co-actor. I’m kinda staying away from dating people in showbiz [because] I need my sense of normalcy back.”
Not just thin but healthy
Aside from school and work, Lauren is on a mission to gain her thin and healthy figure back.
“I gained a lot of weight. There’s no denying that. From before I used to be very thin… not just thin but healthy.”
She added, “Medyo nagpabaya ako so I wasn’t happy with myself, with what I looked like and how I felt so even though I’m not the same size as I used to be, I’m slowly getting there… so going back to my old ways.”
Asked about following in her sister’s beauty queen footsteps, the GMA contract star said she’d rather focus on acting first than venture into something she’s not passionate about.
“I just really want to focus on my acting 'coz siya kung 'yung passion niya is Miss World and beauty pageants and giving back, my passion naman is acting and honing my craft. So until ma-achieve ko yung mga pangarap ko and mga goals ko acting-wise, then siguro tsaka na lang ako mag-veventure into something new.”
