Slater is overwhelmed at his recent win saying that “everything still feels like a dream.”
The Cebuano engineer, who admitted he entered the house for the challenge, expressed his interest in joining showbiz.
“I’d love to try acting and kung may opportunity to enter showbiz, I’d love to do it,” Slater said at the press conference of the Pinoy Big Brother Big Four on Wednesday, April 11, in ABS-CBN compound.
Slater idolizes the likes of Pen Medina and JM de Guzman and hopes to work with KC Concepcion and Kim Chiu someday. He hasn’t tried hosting yet, but is also interested to try it out.
“Sila KC Concepcion and Kim Chiu, may aura sila na simple lang pero may dating pa rin. Sa acting, gusto ko yung mga ginagawa nila Sir Pen Medina, yung mga character actors talaga. Idols ko sila,” he said.
Like Sam?
Before PBB, Slater was managed by talent agency Cornerstone, which also handles Sam. This and their status as former PBB housemates and their good-natured personalities make the comparison between Sam and Slater inevitable.
“It’s a big compliment, knowing Sam na very humble person. Friends kami, magkasundo talaga kami,” Slater said.
Does he see himself competing with Sam who has already established himself in local showbiz and is trying his luck in Hollywood?
“I don’t think so naman. Wala naman iyon sa personalities namin na maging competitors,” Slater replied.
PBB has launched the showbiz careers of many popular celebrities now such as Sam, Gerald Anderson, Kim Chiu and Ejay Falcon. However, Slater also keeps an open mind and acknowledges the fact that not all PBB housemates can make it big in showbiz.
He said that he is ready to accept if showbiz will not work out for him.
“Yes, ready ako doon. I consider everything now as a blessing, so kung ano lang ang mabibigay ng Diyos, Siya na po ang bahala,” he said.
Role model
“Hindi ko rin naman inexpect na magiging Big Winner ako. I wanted to try show business just for the challenge,” Slater added.
He admitted that his family wanted him to help in their own business. But they are now very supportive of his endeavors.
“Ngayon sobrang supportive sila, natutuwa sila sa mga nangyayari sa akin. Malaking compliment iyon para sa family namin na naging Big Winner ako,” Slater said.
Unlike other PBB grand winners who have humble beginnings, Slater comes from a well-off family. Slater said he will give part of his prize for the education of the children of their employees.
Slater thinks it was his leadership, humility and being an inspiration to others that made him the Big Winner.
“Nakita raw po nila yung pagiging role model ko. I showed humility and leadership and sense of growth rin. nagstart ako ng sobrang mahiyain and I grew up talaga sa bahay. I think nagiging inspirasyon rin ako,” Slater said.
